Well,
the first week of classes went really well. Which was surprising
since I haven't so much as stepped foot into a dance studio for over
2 months! And haven't taken a real
class since I was 13.
The
surprise was bitter-sweet though, as it showed me that some things I
thought I was good at needed lots of work! But it also showed me that
I'm good at things I didn't even know I was good at!
We
started class with a basic barre, which although technically simple,
(as this was a beginners class, and I knew the theory behind each
move) it was physically challenging for me. At the end of the barre
we did some abdominal exercises to help strengthen our cores. Then
we moved on to Center work, The center work was beautiful, and fun,
and challenging, and rewarding all at once! But I realized by the end
of the first class just how out of shape I really was. We ended
class with a beautiful Port
de bras ["carriage of the arms"]
which I got to lead at the second class.^_^
Over
all every one in class was so wonderful and nice! And the teacher was
so sweet and encouraging! And I am so looking forward to the next
class!
